Ballyvaughan is an intimate little village, in the heart of the Burren, on the Wild Atlantic Way. It is a popular place to visit at any time of the year, with interesting bars and cafes and a lovely tea rooms, and a local hotel. The cosy open fires in many of the pubs are enticing on a winter’s day, and impromptu traditional music sessions happen at any time! There are lovely little craft shops and a farmers’ market every weekend, where you can buy local produce and crafts.
Enjoy guided walks through the mystical Burren landscape through hills and green roads are available and water sports and fishing is available from the pier and from Black Head. Beaches are at Bishop’s Quarter (6km) and at Fanore (13km) where there are watersports and surfing and sandy dunes to explore. The nearby attractions of the Cliffs of Moher, the Portal Dolmen and the wonderful beaches at Fanore and Bishop’s Quarter make this destination a must for those visiting this region. Fanore to Ballyvaughan Trek is a fabulous walk which is mostly off road walk between Fanore and Ballyvaughan, taking you above the R477 on the old famine road around Blackhead.
