County Kildare in the east of Ireland has vast areas of grazing land and is where the Bog of Allen, Ireland’s largest complex of raised bog, is situated. This wonderful landscape is responsible for its equine tradition, and some of the best known stud farms in the world, including the Irish National Stud, are located in this county. Bloodstock sales take place regular at Goff’s, located just outside the town of Kildare.

The county offers a range of activities in addition to equestrian activities, with a great selection of golf courses, motor racing, and fishing. The county is punctuated by a network of canals creating some delightful walks from village to village along well-worn toe paths. The Royal Canal Way is a 77km, long-distance walking trail ending in Mullingar.

There are many historical places of interest including the university town of Maynooth, Straffan and visitor attractions such as Newbridge Silver and the Japanese Gardens. The county is bordered by Dublin and access to the capital city makes Kildare a very good choice for visitors who like the country life but with the buzz of the city close by.
