Leap has an excellent selection of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. It also has a fine all-weather harness racing track, tennis court and playground. The racing track is used for trotting and sulkey racing similar to harness racing, two horse racing disciplines which are fairly unique to the West Cork region.
There are very fine fishing facilities locally, both sea and trout fishing on the many lakes. To the west of the village, on the Skibbereen road, are the Shepperton Lakes, attractively set beneath the hills. These are very popular trout & fishing waters and Ballinlough Lake lies to the north.
This beautiful part of West Cork is very popular with many tourists throughout the year. Leap is 12km from Glandore, Union Hall and 9.5km from Rosscarbery and a little further west is Skibbereen.
Rosscarbery is another beautiful village with a stunning rugged coastline and fine selection of local sandy beaches. Go walking, cycling, kayaking, fishing or bird-watching plus the local area history dates back over 1,000 years, evidenced by the Neolithic remains such as the portal dolmens. Rosscarbery is a very popular holiday destination and in close proximity to at least three beautiful beaches. The nearest of these, the "Warren Beach", is about a mile from the village, and is designated a blue flag beach, along with the nearby Owenahincha beach.
Glandore, a picturesque harbour village with several pubs serving delicious food and live traditional music sessions.
Sailing is a very popular sport especially in the summer months. The village yacht club's headquarters is located near the pier on the Old School Road. Throughout the summer there are a number of sailing programs held for both children and adults. The Irish Coast Guard has a unit based in Glandore at the "Rocket House" at the western end of the village.
An annual regatta takes place the third weekend of August. Sailing is one of the main attractions to the village, with rowing and swimming also undertaken within the community. And every 2 years the Glandore Classic Boat Regatta is held during the second week of July West Cork has an array of tourist attractions, from water sports, fishing, whale watching and many marked walking routes. Explore the garden trail or visit one of many local farmers markets selling a unique selection of locally produced artisan foods. There are a number of food, music and literary festivals held throughout the year in West Cork. In Leap in Cork you are also located between the busy and very attractive market towns of Skibbereen and Clonakilty. The magnificent Mizen, Sheep’s Head and Beara Peninsulas give an additional flavour of the wonderful scenery in this corner of Ireland.
